Granite countertops
Granite is natural stone quarried in slabs, so every piece is unique. It handles direct heat better than quartz and is extremely durable, but it is porous and needs periodic resealing to keep resisting stains — a real maintenance commitment in a humid climate.
Granite is the choice when you want a genuinely one-of-a-kind surface and cook with high heat. The trade-off is a sealing schedule you actually have to keep.

How often does granite need resealing in Florida?
There is no fixed interval — it depends on the stone, the sealer and how the surface is used and cleaned. Use the water test instead: drop water on the surface, and if it stops beading and starts darkening the stone, it is time to reseal.
Is granite better than quartz for heat?
Yes. Granite is natural stone with no resin binder, so it tolerates direct contact with hot cookware far better than quartz. If you regularly move pans straight from the burner to the counter, granite is the more forgiving surface.
Does every granite slab look different?
Yes, and that is the appeal. Granite is quarried, so veining and colour vary slab to slab and even across a single slab. It also means seams are more visible where a vein pattern breaks, which is worth planning for in a long run.
Frequently asked
Granite countertops — your questions answered
Does granite stain?
It can, because it is porous. A maintained sealer prevents most staining; a worn one does not. Wipe acidic spills promptly regardless.
Can granite be used outdoors?
Yes. Unlike quartz, granite is UV stable and suits outdoor kitchens.
Can I see the actual slab before fabrication?
Slab selection is part of the design conversation. Because granite varies slab to slab, we discuss the specific piece rather than a sample chip.
